Ducks Dispersal?

From IllegalCurve.com:

Some good reasons why the Ducks are looking for a new AHL affiliate. The Ducks are still looking for a new affiliate, and it seems likely the team’s players will disperse through a couple AHL teams for the upcoming season.

Does that mean we could get Foxy Drew Miller in Houston? Uh, TommyNew Aeros GM, if you're taking requests...

I know, he'll probably be with the big club, but a girl can wish.

Ding dong!

I only recently started sipping the Doug Risebrough Haterade, but it was elevated to gulping, with occasional chugging, in recent days.

So news from Russo a few minutes ago that Riser's been sent packing was good news, but I didn't realize just HOW excited I'd be about it. But I'm damn excited.

Of course, at the farm club level, you have to wonder what the trickle down effect will be. Tom Lynn is acting GM for now, but I don't see him getting the big job, nor do I see him sticking around, which I think would have more of an effect than Riser leaving.

I dunno, but I know Wild fans are, to a man or woman, ecstatic about this news and frankly, anything to stop their whining. (Love y'all, but man, it was getting ooooold.)

Then, you know, knowing certain players that weren't getting the love from this "administration"... like Pouliot, Locke, Stoner... maybe they get a chance?

Ahh, good good good.

Interview with Tommy Lynn

I know a lot of people think Tom's a jerk but I kinda like him. He seems to talk without a lot of filters or BS, and I'd rather hear the straight shit and not like it than have to read between the lines of someone who puts pillows around everything.

Anyway, this is a good interview with O'Donnell from the second intermission of Thursday's game. Good talk about the trade deadline, particularly as it relates to the Aeros, in which he basically says further trades aren't likely for the Aeros because the team chemistry is so good, they're afraid to tinker with it and throw it off.

If you believe it (and I think it's prudent to be skeptical), that's good news in several ways. So, I'll take it.

Also a good discussion about why they've called up certain guys and not others, so if you're wondering why you haven't seen Locker up yet, take a listen.

MYOB: Injury Status in the NHL

Alright, I suspect I'm in the minority given the bellyaching I'm hearing about the new NHL p0licy around injury disclosure, but I've read it all and still fail to see why fans are remotely upset about this.

Now, granted, Wild Assistant GM Tom Lynn has been his usual direct, no-mincing-words self on the subject, which is rubbing Wild fans the wrong way. I can see why it comes across abrasive and arrogant to fans, but I appreciate his candor and directness. Seems like Riser's the good cop, Lynn's the bad cop. That's fine with me. Somebody's gotta be the asshole.

And I'll be honest, I agree with Lynn on the injury policy. As a fan, I don't need to know what the injury is and I think any observant fan can look at a player's skating and/or traveling status (through beat reports and such) to get a reasonable sense of the severity of the injury.

I don't understand why paying fans are so deserving of the details of a player's injury. They're out. They're not playing. What else do you need to know? If you have tickets, they're still out regardless of the reason. If you're thinking about buying tickets and you're only going to see that player, as mentioned above, it's pretty easy to get a gauge of the player's status.

Since this has started, I've not once felt deprived of the information I needed to make decisions around this team. Granted, I'm not buying tickets to NHL games too much but if I were, it wouldn't be based on whether one or two players were in or out of the game.

What am I missing here? Help me out, because people whose reasoning I usually have a good deal of respect for are up in arms and I'm just completely taken aback by it.

Now, from a beat reporter's perspective, I get why Russo and others in the media are frustrated and pushing back in their way. It's an insult to their intelligence when they can clearly see players limping around the locker room, icing this or that body part, etc. to have to dance around what they know to be true. That goes against the mentality of a journalist.

But fans? I don't get why you're upset. What difference does it make other than assuaging your curiosity? What decisions are you making differently, or are having difficulty making, as a result of this change?

Nice interviews with Brandon Rogers and Tom Lynn

First taste of Joe O'Donnell, the new voice of the Aeros. Rogers is smart and well-spoken. Hopefully he's back taking contact pretty soon. We'll need him on the blue line. He sounds so captainy...

Interesting that he mentioned Adrian Foster having a broken foot at the end of the season. I guess that's where he disappeared to. Of course, the irony that he missed the trip to Europe with Brandon and then ended up playing there...

Also, a good interview with Tom Lynn (who, I realize now, I saw several times on Friday and if I'd known, I'd have cornered him and tried to get some Gaby scoop). Also, I have to say, he's not smarmy looking in person like he is in his official Wild photo. They should reshoot him.

Anyway, nice job, Joe!

Off to the Texans game today. Ugh.
